Hypospadias of the Penis
!! WARNING !!
It is very important to recognize any genital anomaly before circumcising a boy. For the successful solution of buried penis, hypospadias or epispadias, the preserved foreskin of the penis is crucial, in order to achieve a natural functional and aesthetic result of reconstructive surgery.
Hypospadias is an anomaly treated exclusively through surgery, with each form requiring complex surgical intervention. In particularly challenging cases, two-stage surgery may be necessary, with 4-6 months between procedures. Penoscrotal, scrotal, perineal hypospadias, and previously failed repairs typically require two operations. The assessment for staged repair is made during the initial examination.
Hypospadias correction involves:
-
Correction of ventral penile curvature
-
Formation of the distal urethra
-
Glans reconstruction
-
Penile skin reconstruction
-
Scrotal skin reconstruction
Treatment protocol:
-
Surgery is not performed before 18 months of age
-
Procedure duration: up to 2 hours under general anesthesia
-
Hospital stay: 1 day
-
Postoperative care includes:
-
Urethral stent for urinary channel irrigation
-
Cystofix catheter for bladder drainage
-
Coban wrap dressing changes every other day to prevent edema/hematoma
-
-
Two weeks post-op: removal of all dressings and stents, followed by initiation of normal voiding
-
Cystofix removal occurs one day after successful voiding begins
Patients achieve aesthetically natural, fully functional, and permanent results from hypospadias surgery with just one operation, often referred to as the "Perovic Hypospadias Repair" technique. The complication rate using Professor Sava Perović's techniques for hypospadias is exceptionally low.
